Suspicious envelope evacuates Bobby Scott‘s Newport News office

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WTVR) — Congressman Bobby Scott‘s office in Newport News was evacuated as a precaution after a suspicious envelope was discovered Thursday afternoon.

Scott’s office is located in the 2600 block of Washington Avenue in Newport News.

Newport News Fire Department Battalion Chief J. Douglas Carper said the bomb squad inspected the envelope and found no explosives.

HazMat crews are testing the envelope.

The building’s top three floors were evacuated.
