RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- AAA projects 34 million Americans will hit the road this Labor Day weekend, and that includes nearly 950,000 Virginians.

But unlike last year, drivers will not have to dig as deep to fill up their tank.

Today the average in Virginia for regular unleaded is $3.37, that's about a quarter less than the $3.61 national average.  And the price we are paying this year in the Commonwealth is well below the $3.68 a gallon Virginians were paying in 2012.

Some drivers say in addition to keeping a close eye on prices at the pump, they are also concerned with distracted driving.

That includes drinking and driving, getting behind the wheel while drowsy and aggressive driving.  Virginia police say because of these concerns and with an increase in drivers on the road, they are beefing up patrol this weekend around the state.
