RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond police are working a double shooting in the city’s East End Thursday afternoon.

Police say it happened on Redd Street near Coalter Street in Mosby Court around 4:30 p.m.

"I come outside and I hear gunshots," one neighbor told CBS 6 News' Chelsea Rarrick.

Sources told CBS 6 News two people, including a child, were shot. Neighbors and friends of the family identified the child as a 6-year-old girl.

"I look over and see a little girl bleeding; horrible," said the neighbor.

CBS 6 News reporter Mark Holmberg said an argument between people playing basketball prompted an exchange of gunfire between two or three players.

An adult male was shot in the lower torso and the girl was shot in the leg.

Both were transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Neighbors said they heard at least 20 gunshots after the fight broke out.

Police said the mother of the 6-year-old went to the hospital to be with her child.

Neighbors told CBS 6 the violence in the area have them concerned for safety.

"It's ridiculous. The kids can't play outside," said one neighbor.
