RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Thomas Jefferson High School students, parents, alumni and neighbors met Wednesday to discuss a plan to improve the Richmond high school's athletic facilities.

School athletic leaders are pushing to redo the school's football and soccer fields with AstroTurf. They would also like to build an outdoor field house with bathrooms and concession stands.

"We're still in the very initial planning stages of something that's going to be a really positive improvement for TJ," Richmond School Board member Glen Sturtevant said. "It's not going to be cheap and it's not going to happen quickly."

Sturtevant added he was not yet sure whether funding for the project would come from the school system or from community donations.

The purpose of Wednesday's information meeting was to get everyone on the same page. Supporters now plan to take their ideas to the full Richmond School Board and City Council.
