Sheriff’s daughter, granddaughter killed in crash

KING GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Crash investigators are working to determine what caused the six-vehicle accident that claimed the lives of the King George County Sheriff’s daughter and granddaughter.

Sheriff Steve Dempsey’s daughter Dawn, 37, and her 14-year-old daughter Laureen were killed in the Tuesday afternoon crash near Baltimore. A seven-year-old girl also died in the crash.

The Dempseys were traveling on Route 3  when a flatbed truck rear-ended their car, police said. Four other people were injured in the crash.

Mourners are leaving their condolences on the King George County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

“I know it is a difficult time at best, but God will see you all through. You are all in our thoughts and prayers,” posted¬†Joshua Stitt.

“Very sorry for Sheriff Dempsey’s loss,” Billy Whited wrote. “I was about 10 cars behind this accident. I arrived on the scene to help as much as could. Very sad accident. God bless you and your family.”
