SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (WTVR)–The operation is part of a larger scheme of educational initiatives and checks to help ensure the safety of children as school activities and gatherings resume next week, Captain Lisa Wright said.

On August 28, 2013, the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with VA Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (VA ABC) conducted an underage buyer operation.

Sheriff’s Office Cadets ages 17-19 visited off premise establishments within the county that hold ABC licenses.  They utilized accurate ID’s and answered honestly when questioned about their age or birthdate.

Fifty-six stores were visited and only three sold: Sunoco at 4600 Plank Road, Fas Mart at 11625 Brock Road and Food Lion at 10871 Tidewater Trail.

A compliance rate of  95 % is considered a positive reflection on the County’s businesses, said Wright in a press release.

This means they are taking the sale of alcohol to underage people very seriously.

In most cases ID’s were requested and scrutinized.

“Keeping alcohol out of the hands of underage persons is a priority of this administration and my ultimate goal as sheriff is for 100% compliance for all businesses in Spotsylvania County” said Sheriff Roger Harris.
