DINWIDDIE, Va. (WTVR)–If you want to “party like its Pamplona” and “grab life by the horns,” then you must be excited to attend the first event in the United States where people can run with the bulls.

The Great Bull Run is coming to Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie County on August 24, 2013.

There will be a quarter-mile track with twenty-four 1,000-pound bulls running amid the fleet-footed locals.

Organizers anticipate around 8,000 locals will attend; half of them will be spectators and the other half will actually be running with the bulls.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Great Bull Run and Tomato Royale. Oh yeah, did we mentionthe food fight?

When

There are four different run times, and as of this posting almost all are sold out.

The waves are 11 a.m., noon, 1:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

You must be 18 to participate in the Bull Run, and at least 14-years-old for the Tomato Royale food fight.

All online ticket registration is closed. Prices at the door are as follows.
To run with the bulls, if there are tickets left, will cost $75. To participate in the food fight will cost $40. To take it all in from the stands, while enjoying music will cost $10.

Children 13 and under get in free.  If there are spaces open in later waves, participants can re-run for just $30.

Where

8018 Boydton Plank Rd
Petersburg, VA 23803

What to expect

trackTwenty-four bulls will be released in three waves of eight, roughly 20 seconds apart, and will sprint down the track in about three minutes.  Because bulls run much faster than humans, it’s pretty unlikely you will be running alongside them for more than a few seconds.

If you want to know more about how professional bull handlers will be on the track, and what strategy to use if running, then click over here.

Weather

The event is rain or shine. If there is severe weather that prevents the event from held at all on Saturday, the event will be moved to Sunday. If weather persists, it will be moved to Monday.

Keep an eye on weather here.

Do and Dont’s

Look, you’re going to run with bulls. That’s no joke. You know that’s dangerous right? According to the organizer, that’s why you’re even doing this–because you like danger. You need to read, maybe re-read the full list of rules here if you are running with the bulls, or participating in the food fight. That PDF is here.
