UPDATE: Volunteer dies at Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad

UPDATE: Visitation for Wilbur Russell Fraenzel will be Thursday, August 15 at Nelson Funeral Home, 4660 South Laburnum Ave. from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Nelson Funeral Home, 4660 South Laburnum Ave., at 11:00 a.m. Friday. There will be a reception held at the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad following services.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad leader Wilbur Fraenzel died suddenly Monday night while at work, according to the organization.

“Despite valiant efforts by a team of his fellow rescue squad members, Henrico County Division of Fire personnel, and staff at the Memorial Regional Medical Center Wilbur was not able to be resuscitated,” the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad said in a statement.

Fraenzel, 30, had been a member at Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad for five years. In that time he served as a Squad Leader and Basic Life Support Trainer for new members.

“Wilbur had clearly demonstrated a passion for serving others in our community though his efforts with Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad. In this calendar year alone he had already served greater than 700 hours with Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad,” the statement continued.
