(WTVR) – A severe storm that rolled through Central Virginia Saturday afternoon cancelled or postponed some events and knocked out power to thousands of people.

“Walmart in Mechanicsville has no power, and my kids and grandson is [sic] stuck there,” viewer Leslie Breeding wrote in a Facebook post.  “Hail cracked windshield and stuff blowing through the doors.”

More than 23,000 customers in the city of Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield, New Kent and tri-cities area were without power, according to Dominion Virginia Power. [Click here for updated power outage numbers]

The Washington Redskins, in Richmond for training camp, tweeted a picture from camp and said practice was postponed and would resume Monday.

Maymont was also temporary evacuated due to the storms, but they told CBS 6’s Sandra Jones the Richmond Jazz Festival would continue once the storm passed.

The storm also hit the Glen Allen area with severe rain and thunder.

There has also been a report of several trees down on Parham Road near Woodman Road in Henrico.

Crews will continue working on the power lines tomorrow and by then should have an idea when power will be restored.
