RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Two people surrendered peacefully to police early Thursday morning after a "barricade situation" in a South Richmond neighborhood.

Police arrested 24-year-old Kiara L. Williams, 24, of the 200 block of Labrook Drive, shortly before 5:30 a.m. in connection with an early-morning shooting on Interstate 64.

Williams was charged with one count of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of attempted first degree murder. A handgun was recovered in connection with the shooting.

The 21 year-old female victim from Chesterfield County was not injured.

Kiara L. WilliamsPolice said the situation began about 12:45 a.m. when two women got into a fight inside a vehicle as it traveled on Interstate 64 east near the Henrico - New Kent County line. Police said when the vehicle pulled over near the weigh station in Sandston, shots were fired. No one was injured.

Troopers located a bullet hole in a parking lot sign, which sits approximately 30 yards from the interstate.

"The suspect fired at the female victim, then the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle," Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar said.

Police found the suspect's vehicle later on Labrook Drive. Some neighbors who lived near the Labrook home were told to evacuate for their safety.

Criminal investigators continued to search the home throughout Thursday morning.  Canine units were brought in to search the home for the weapon used and shell casings, according to officials.

Multiple neighbors on Labrook Drive said they were not surprised an incident like this ended near their home.

"You never know what someone is going through," said Tenisha Brown, who lives down the street from where police arrested the suspect.
