HENRICO, Va – The Henrico Fire Department responded to a report from an electrocution at the corner of E. Washington Street and N. Kalmia Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. Monday night.

When units arrived they found a 30-year-old male on the ground. He was trimming a tree from a lift bucket and came in contact with a power line that Dominion Virginia Power reports carries about 19,000 volts, said Cpt. James Mellon.

The man was transported to VCU Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Witnesses told first responders that the victim came in contact with the line two times before falling out of the bucket. The victim was caught by his safety harness and bystanders assisted the patient to the ground prior to the fire departments arrival.

Power was interrupted for about 30 minutes, for about 300 customers while Dominion Virginia Power checked the lines for damage.
