RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place Saturday afternoon at Schwarzchild Jewelers in Carytown.
Police were called to the jewelry store around 2:49 p.m., minutes after three men entered the store, smashed multiple display cases with a hammer and fled with stolen items. Police have not yet released a description of the stolen goods nor their value.
Two clerks suffered minor injuries when they were struck with a device similar to a stun gun, police said.
"They're always very pleasant. I'm glad everyone is all right. It's
a scary situation," said Alex Wotring, who owns the Smoothie King three doors down from Schwarzchild.
Police are still investigating and reviewing surveillance video, which may be released later.
Richmond Police are still looking to identify four suspects. They are described as:
- Suspect #1: black male, 6'2", 250 pounds, mid-30's, with dreadlocks in a pony tail, a tan tee-shirt, and carrying the hammer.
- Suspect #2: black male, 5'5", 140-150 pounds, mid-20's, wearing a black tee-shirt with blue and red squares, and carrying the stun gun.
- Suspect #3: black male, 5'8", 140-150 pounds, late-20's, wearing a red baseball cap.
- Suspect #4: black male, no further description.
The four men were last seen fleeing the store on foot down Belmont Street. Police said the men split into two groups before witnesses lost sight of them.
Jamal Pittman, a server at Can Can Brassiere in the Cary Court shopping center, saw the suspects before and after the robbery.
"I noticed something wasn't right when I first noticed them," Pittman said. He believes he saw the men plotting the robbery before it happened.
Richmond Police said they have not made an arrest in this case. Detectives said they may release the surveillance footage on Monday to help identify the suspects.
