SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WTVR) – Nearly two dozen small dogs turned over to animal control officers this month are going up for adoption. Twenty-three dogs, mostly Maltese and Bichon Frise breeds, were taken from a Springfield-area home when the dogs’ owner became ill and could no longer care for them.

“The dogs range in condition from fair to very poor,” Fairfax Police wrote in a press release. “Those that are healthy are being groomed, spayed or neutered, and treated for medical conditions ranging from cataracts to heart murmurs.”

At least 10 of the dogs are healthy enough to be put up for adoption this week, police said. The other dogs will be put up for adoption once their treatments are complete.

The dogs “range in age from six months to eight years and are friendly and easy to handle,” police said.

If you are interested in adopting the dogs, call the Fairfax County Animal Shelter at 703-830-1100 or email FCPDPetResources@fairfaxcounty.gov.
