RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – On the second day of Washington Redskins training camp, thousands of people turned out to watch the team in action.

But before fans even step foot inside the gates, workers are posted at the entrance and others make sure folks do not bring in prohibited items.

A CBS 6 viewer wanted to know who was paying for all the security around the training camp.

Mayor`s office spokeswoman Tammy Hawley said those workers are all volunteers hired by the Redskins and the city.

However, some taxpayer dollars go toward the Richmond police officers securing the camp's perimeter.

RPD spokesman Gene Lepley maintained the majority of those officers are working their regular shifts. He admitted that some officers are working off-duty and will be doing so during the three-week long Redskins training camp.

Lepley said the department is constantly evaluating the department's staffing levels to handle the large crowds and to keep the public safe.
