RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A tropical wave that emerged off of Africa earlier this week and tracked a couple hundred miles south of the Cape Verde Islands, then became Tropical Depression Four Wednesday morning, is now Tropical Storm Dorian.
A west-northwest track is likely into early next week as the system rounds the southern edge of a broad Atlantic high pressure area to its north. It is too early to determine where the system will go next week, but U.S. impacts are certainly feasible by mid to late next week.

In case you’re wondering, we’re actually running “ahead of schedule” for tropical activity season-to-date. On average, we don’t get our fourth named system until about a month later than this.
