RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) -- The heat index isn't the only thing going up, prices at the pump are also on the rise.  AAA Mid-Atlantic said to blame is the surge in crude oil prices, coupled with the demand for gas during the busy summer travel season.

On July 1, many Virginians welcomed some relief at the pump after the state gas tax was reduced by nearly six-cents a gallon.  But only a few weeks later and drivers in the Commonwealth--including in the Richmond area--have seen an uptick in the amount they are paying at the pump.  In just over a weeks time, the cost has gone up nearly 12-cents in the Metro.

According to GasBuddy.comin Richmond today on average a gallon will cost you $3.47, that's 18-cents less than the $3.65 national average.  However just yesterday gas was two-cents cheaper at $3.45 in the Metro.  And when compared to this same time last year, gas is up 20-cents.

Experts who have been closely watching what's happening at gas stations all over, say you should not expect any relief from gas pump pain for at least the next few weeks--possibly for the rest of the summer.
