UPDATE: The victim in Tuesday's deadly jet ski accident on Lake Anna was identified as 23-year-old Russell Jones of The Plains, Va. Ron Messina, with the Va. Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, said Jones and his brother were riding jet skis in the wake of a pontoon boat when the incident happened. Investigators are meeting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney to determine if any charges will be filed.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- A man was killed in a jet ski accident on Lake Anna, according to Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Sgt. Ryan Shuler. Shuler said the 23-year-old victim's jet ski collided with another jet ski Tuesday morning.

People in two boats witnessed the accident, Shuler said. Those witnesses picked the victim up out of the water and performed CPR on him while they brought him back to Duke’s Creek Marina in Bumpass.

Judy Jones, who has run Duke's Creek Marina for 9 years, said she heard the accident happened in a split second.

"What I heard was two jet skies were out there and they cut across a wake," Jones told CBS 6 News senior reporter Wayne Covil. "And one of them went airborne and hit the other individual and put him into the water."

Jones also said that the family of eight in a pontoon boat who came to the victim's aid was "quite shook up" about what happened.

"I think they did a great job,"  Shuler said. "I think that they did what anybody should do in that situation. And that's help your fellow boater."

The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is investigating the accident.

At this time no charges have been filed in connection with the incident. Conservation police said that if charges are brought, they will come after a meeting with the Spotsylvania commonwealth's attorney.

Virginia has had fewer jet ski accidents in recent years, but the state has still more than a dozen deadly accidents each year.
