RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The woman who was to face charges after her son died in a Church Hill house fire has died, according to Richmond Police.
Ava Marcus, 36, of N. 30th St., had been listed in critical condition at VCU Medical Center since the June 25 fire.
Two counts of threatening to burn were pending againstMarcusafter her 18-month-old son died following the fire.
“They’re the types of charges that you charge only to hold someone,” CBS 6 legal expert Todd Stone said earlier this month. “So if she were to be released from the hospital, she wouldn’t go anywhere.”
Police said detectives had been working with fire investigators to determine if more charges needed to be filed. Police spokesman James Mercante said the case has now been cleared as a result of the death.
“She was nice people. She was over to our house a few times,” neighbor Kequan Henley said about Marcus following the fire. “She seemed smart, even brilliant, actually. ”
Other neighbors told police that hours before the fire, Marcus was talking to herself on her front porch and spraying cars with a water hose as they drove by.
Police asked anyone with information about the fire to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
