CHESTERFIELD, Va. - Saturday night Chesterfield Police were called to a home for an apparent murder suicide. The two victims have been identified as a mother and son.

Officers responded to a "shots fired" call at a home on the 1800 block of Lark Hill Lane shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.

At the scene, police found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound outside of the home. She died before rescue arrived.

Inside the home, officers found the victim's adult son dead, from what looks to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police have identified the deceased as 64-year-old Barbara S. Hogue and 43-year-old Jeffery S. Hogue.  Both resided in the 1800 block of Larkhill Lane.

Residents are shocked by the incident.

"Once I saw all the police cars I knew something was wrong, but I didn't think it was something like this," one neighbor says.

Jay Lang, who has lived close to the Hogues for 14 years, said incidents like this are not normal in the quiet Bon Air neighborhood.

"Nothing remotely close to this," Lang said. "I guess it just goes to show you anything can happen these days."

Police are still investigating.
