Number of new laws take effect in Va. on July 1

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- A number of new laws take effect in Virginia on Monday July 1, 2013.

Parents who have a child die before they turn 18 will now have access to their social media accounts.
Circuit court clerks are no longer be allowed to disclose who has a concealed gun permit issued in Virginia.

The state sales tax is increasing, in some locations is now be as much as six-percent.

Sales tax on cars is also went up to four percent state-wide.

Public school teachers will be trained to perform CPR and first aid. Ninth graders will be required to learn resuscitation. That will begin in the 2016 school year.

Several driving laws also took effect. They stiffen penalties for drving under the influence, and texting and driving. Two other laws change requirements for first year drivers and moped operators.
