I-95 southbound closed after dump truck crash

On I-95 at mile marker 54 in the City of Colonial Heights

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR)– The right lane of Interstate 95 southbound is closed after a single vehicle crash that occurred north of Temple Avenue in Colonial Heights shortly before 10:30a.m. Saturday morning.

State police said the crash occurred when the driver of a 2005 Mack dump truck, fully loaded with dirt, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the embankment.

The driver, a 75-year-old male, was wearing his safety belt and suffered minor injuries.  He was transported to the hospital.

VDOT reports that traffic is currently backed up six miles due to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
