RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Richmond fire crews have recovered a body from the James River about five miles south of where crews were searching Wednesday.

Officials were called out to 4000 Deepwater Terminal Road around 10 a.m. Thursday after someone spotted a body in the river.

Officials have not said if the body pulled from the river connected to their search for a teen reportedly spotted floating down the James earlier this week.

“We already had boat crews in the water, so we were able to respond quickly…,” Lt. Robbie Hagaman told CBS 6 News reporter Jerrita Patterson. “We did remove one body from the water behind this address.”

Hagaman also said investigators are working with Richmond police to identify the body and that the medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.

The Richmond Fire Department has been searching for a teen's body spotted floating down the river near Brown’s Island since Tuesday afternoon.

Hagaman said earlier this week that crews were called out to a water rescue on Belle Isle around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday after a group near the rope swing said someone had gone into the water, became distressed and then floated down the river.
