RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--Richmond and VCU police have teamed up to keep crime down in one part of the city.

They've been patrolling the Carver neighborhood together since May 1.

Carver is located just north of the Monroe Park campus, and is home to several VCU facilities, as well as a large student population.

Police say that part of the city experienced an uptick in crime in the first quarter of 2013. Now they say their joint patrols seem to be working.

“We've seen some outstanding results, we’ve had a 46 percent decrease in crime in this neighborhood in the last 60 days and we are working towards going forward in continuing that partnership,” said Lt. Gleason with the Richmond Police Department.

Richmond police gather crime statistics every 28 days, and say the numbers show that the Carver neighborhood has had its best reporting period of the year.
