RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond City Council President Charles Samuels plans to introduce legislation at tonight's Richmond City Council meeting that he hopes kick starts regional cooperation towards building a new baseball stadium.

The ordinance and resolution, if approved by council and then the court, will be put on the November ballot for Richmond voters to decide.

"This simply says ‘Is the Boulevard where you want to continue enjoying baseball?’” said Samuels. “It’s probably one of the few times in my life I’ll put something to a referendum, but I think it’s important in this case,” Samuels said.

While the referendum will be introduced Monday, there will be no discussion nor vote. There will be opportunity for public discussion at the Richmond City Council Organizational Development Standing Committee meeting on Monday, July 1, 2013, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Council is expected to vote on the matter on July 8.
