While we have had some dry spells through parts of this month, occasional showers and storms — sometimes with extremely heavy rainfall — have allowed our monthly total to be high, at times about three inches above normal.

If Richmond International Airport picks up just under an inch of rainfall by Sunday night, this June will rank in the top 10 wettest on record.

Widely scattered storms will be around much of the week.  They won’t hit all areas, but the ones that do pop up will not move very quickly.  The slow speed combined with the muggy air will allow for extremely heavy localized downpours.  There is the potential for areas that see repeated storms to pick up a few inches of rain.

A cold front will move into the area this weekend and stall out overhead.  This will provide the trigger for storms to pop up over the weekend.  The weekend does not appear to be a washout, but there will be some occasional storms, especially Sunday into Monday of next week.  Some of our computer models are hinting at the possibility of one to two inches of rainfall in that Sunday-Monday time period.
