GREAT FALLS, Mont. (WTVR) — A Virginia man convicted of trying to kill several Montana police officers was sentenced Thursday afternoon.

Laurence Stewart II was sentenced to life without parole for attempted deliberate homicide for each of the seven officers he tossed pipe bombs at during a chase in Montana while he was on the run.

In handing down the life sentences, the judge said that any one of the five pipe bombs could have killed any one of the seven law enforcement officers during a 45-mile chase.

Stewart, who was found guilty of attempted capital murder in May, went on the run after investigators in Stafford County said he set off pipe bombs at the homes of his ex-fiancée and two police officers.

There has been no word on what the Stafford County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office may do in terms of Stewart’s case.
