Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games preview

RICHMOND, VA. (WTVR): The Summer Games are back and you can be a part of the games. More than 1300 athletes, their families and volunteers will converge at the University of Richmond and other venues for the annual Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games June 7th & 8th. Volunteers are still needed to Cheer the athletes in swimming, track & field, softball, tennis and bowling. Volunteers are also needed for the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, 7:45pm at The Robins Center, U of R, visit www.volunteer2cheer.com to sign up. Because of heavy rains, the following Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games events today (Friday, June 7) are canceled: Track & Field at the University of Richmond, Softball at Glen Allen Softball Complex, Tennis at the University of Richmond. The Torch Run Capitol Ceremony, dorm registration, hotel registration, meals and the Opening Ceremony at the University of Richmond will continue as scheduled. Aquatics and bowling competitions will continue as scheduled. No changes to Saturday’s (June 8) schedule have been made at this time. Summer Games competitions are at various locations and start at 9am, Softball at the Glen Allen Complex, 2175 Mountain Road; Track & Field, wheelchair athletics, softball skills & tennis at U of R, Robins Center, Pitt Field & Richmond & Westhampton Tennis Courts;  New Location for swimming at Collegiate School Aquatics Center, 5050 Ridgedale Parkway; Bowlers at Bowl America Short Pump, 4400 Pouncey Tract Road; and a Young Athletes "Fun Run" at 8:45am on the tracks at U of R.
