RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The janitor who discovered an infant's body in a dumpster behind a medical building on Monument Avenue is breaking his silence.

CBS 6 News tracked down the Richmond grandfather that said he is still reeling from what he found. He said he is still in disbelief -- and can’t stop thinking about what he saw -- after finding the baby girl wrapped in plastic and paper towels in the trash.

Other workers in the building said they wish they could have done something to prevent the tragedy.

A new mom who works in the Lee Medical Building admits she's having a difficult time knowing that a cleaning crew found he newborn in the dumpster on Tuesday.

“When you have a child, your heart grows ten times bigger,” she said. “It kinda blows your mind to think someone would do that."

A police source confirms 27-year-old Shavaughn Robinson, who worked in the building at a massage practice, gave birth in a bathroom not long before the infant was found.

The same sixth-floor bathroom the worker used the next day before realizing what happened.

"After I realized what had happened, it dawned on me that what I saw was of course where investigators had been dusting everything,” the worker said. “Turns my stomach to know you're standing her where something like that happened."

Dr. Alan Entin, a clinical psychologist who  has worked in the building for 37 years, said the fact that Robinson allegedly took such a bold action in a place that has cameras, shows how irrational the whole thing is.

Entin questions what may have happened in Robinson's life that led her to this point?

"We really don't know what's going on in people's heads,” said Entin. “Just a poor desperate young lady who finds herself in a terrible condition."

Recently family members, co-workers and friends said they had no idea Robinson was pregnant.

Robinson is being held in custody and more charges could be filed next week.
