Richmond unemployment rate higher than state average

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond’s unemployment rate is higher than the state average, according to a new report. The Virginal Employment Commission has released April’s jobless numbers.

In the River City, about 5.4 percent of people reported they don’t have a job.

Across the state, the jobless average is about 5.2 percent.  One year ago in April the unemployment average was 5.9 percent.

The city of Martinsville had the highest unemployment rate in the state at 15-percent.

Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is below the April national rate of 7.5 percent, which was down 0.1 percentage point from March.
