RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Time is ticking away…
The Redskins arrive in Richmond in T-minus 56 days. Their new training camp off Leigh Street is almost complete and with that comes a sense of excitement for players who've never been to the Capital City.
"It'll be a good change of scenery,” said running back Alfred Morris. “I've never been to Richmond, so it'll be a neat experience."
Morris ran for more than 1,600 yards last season and said if there's down time, he'll be the first one to get out. "I’m definitely going to try and get out and soak up some of the history and knowledge of this city," he said.
NFL Rookie of the Year quarterback Robert Griffin III said while he will be close to grandma’s house, his focus is on the season ahead.
"Richmond is going to be great, a good time to get away from everything and be with the team,” Griffin said. “It kind of forces you to get to know your teammates better."
RG3 and Morris are both in their sophomore seasons as Redskins. Veteran wide receiver Josh Morgan said he hoped to see fans that supported him at Virginia Tech come out in big numbers.
"A lot of Hokie fans are down there,” Morgan said. “A lot of them are tweeting me. Some think we are already there because we are practicing, but they're real excited."
"Josh, RG3's grandma is down there and has her own fan fare,” a reporter said. “If she invites you over for dinner are you going to go?” Morgan laughed and said, "You know it, man, there's nothing better than a home-cooked meal."
City officials said they are working on finalizing parking plans for Redskins fans that involve a few lots with shuttles from around the city.
