HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The Godwin High School students involved in a senior prank that locked down the West End school for three hours Wednesday may miss graduation, according to Henrico Schools Director of Communications and Public Relations Andy Jenks.
A group of Godwin seniors poured baby oil in the school's hallways between first and second periods, Godwin principal Beth Armbruster wrote in a letter to parents.
While students gathered for a senior cookout, a smaller group of seniors "worked collaboratively to pour baby oil onto the tile floored hallways moments prior to class exchange to second period," said Armbruster.
Video sent to CBS 6 by a student showed people slipping on the oil-slicked floor.
"Staff immediately noticed the safety concern, moved students to class carefully," Armbruster wrote. "At approximately 9:55 a.m., the administrative team placed the school on 'no movement status', which we refer to as 'Lockdown,' in order to clean the multiple affected areas and to ensure student safety."
Jenks said the students involved will be disciplined "in accordance with the Code of Conduct which in this case may include non-participation in graduation exercises." He added he was aware of at least two people who suffered minor injuries.
"While this is an unfortunate and unnecessary act, we hope all students will learn that this kind of behavior always has serious consequences," Jenks wrote in an email to CBS 6.
The lockdown was lifted around 12:22 p.m.
