UPDATED: Lake Anna search ends as young girl found dead

LOUISA, Va. (WTVR)–Rescue crews are searching for a 6-year-old girl, and possibly another victim, who fell into Lake Anna Monday afternoon, according to the Major Donnie Lowe with Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.

Major Lowe told CBS 6 that the child fell into the water around 2:30 p.m. and couldn’t be found. Sources tell CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett, who will be live from the scene, that the missing girl is a Richmond kindergartner.

She was fishing with her grandfather when she slipped a fell into the water, Burkett reports. A 56-year-old went in after her, reached the girl, but they both became distressed.

The grandfather then goes in to try to help, but neither he nor the bystander are able to get the girl out.

Crews told CBS 6 that both the grandfather and bystander were able to get out of the water alive.
