RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--A helping hand can go a long ways towards helping someone in need.

But when you multiply that times several dozen hands, well a lot of work can get done in a short amount of time.

Dominion Virginia Power is helping 21 non profits in nine states that work with veterans.

Here in the Richmond area, four nonprofits were selected and early Wednesday morning, dozens of Dominion employees who volunteered to help hit the ground running.

Painting, building, spreading mulch; no task too small or too large for the crews.

Two veterans who were once homeless were pleasantly surprised by the Dominion volunteers who arrived at a Virginia Supportive Housing home on Chamberlayne Avenue, and Hands Up Ministries on Delaware Avenue.

Within a few short hours, much was accomplished. For those who live there, it reinforces there are those out there who care about their well-being.

And for the volunteers, it helps foster a network among employee's and some say builds a better company.
