RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) -- The 2012 Virginia Crime report was released Monday, listing how much crime in Virginia took place last year and who it affected the most.

According to the report, murder, aggravated assault, and drug offenses all increased last year. Robbery, motor vehicle theft, and embezzlement were all down.

According to the report, August 2012 is the month when the most crime occurred and the age group most likely to be a victim of a homicide is adults 50 years of age or older.

In Virginia last year, $41 million worth of cars were stolen, with $25 million of that being recovered.

Therefore, if your car is stolen you have about a 60 percent chance of getting it back.

Only eight percent of stolen guns were successfully recovered in 2012.

Richmond Police were out on the streets Monday, talking crime with residents.

"We try to gear up for the summer with any enhancements to the way we do business," Richmond Police Chief Ray Tarasovic said.
