JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The man dragged four miles by a car in James City County over the weekend has died, according to police. James City County Police identified the man as 31-year-old LeTroy Prince Wallace.

Police said Wallace was thrown from his 1997 VW sedan when he lost control of his car Saturday afternoon along the 8900 block of Richmond Rd.  James City County Police Major Stephen Rubino said Wallace’s car hydroplaned on a wet road, spun several times and hit a tree.

Rubino said a second vehicle then ran over Wallace, dragging him four miles into New Kent County.

While driving down Route 60 in New Kent, Caleb Gay, 20, saw Wallace being dragged. Gay said he quickly made a U-turn, caught up to the car and blocked it from going any farther.

“We jacked the car off the man, and we asked him if he could hear us, and he shook his head,” said Gay, recounting what happened right after the other vehicle stopped.

The driver of the second car, described by police as a 22-year old Providence Forge man, was not injured. He told police the two had been “racing” prior to the crash.

Police said the crash remained under investigation and officers were talking to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to determine what, if any, charged would be filed.

Before Wallace’s death, WTKR.com obtained 911 calls from the accident.
