RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Just 48 hours after nearly tying a record cold low temperature, Richmond only dipped in the morning to the record warm low temperature for May 16.

The morning low temperature reported at Richmond International Airport Thursday was 70 degrees, which would have tied the old record for that date from 1976 for the record warm low temperature.

However, when thunderstorms moved over Richmond in the late afternoon and evening, temperatures fell into the upper 60s, thus removing the short-lived record at RIC. But here’s what the morning low temperatures looked like across central Virginia.

Two mornings ago, Richmond was only one degree shy of tying the record cold low for May 14 at RIC.
