Farmer’s Market $10 punch card challenge offers prize incentive

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)—A new contest aims to please already committed farmer’s market shoppers and entice potential shoppers.

A new punch card challenge can be used to track purchases of at least $10. Once a user collects 14 punches, the cards can be returned to the market manager or the Virginia Food System Council.

All who enter the contest have a chance at winning a basket of Virginia-only goodies, worth $250. The basket includes produce, specialty products such as peanuts and chocolate, herbs and cut flowers and plants.

The basket will be given away by random drawing by the Virginia Food System Council. All entries must be received no later than Oct. 4, 2012.

The random drawing will take place on or near Oct. 7. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

The odds of winning depend on the amount of entries but the contest will take place throughout the state.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension has research that project if each household spent $10 a week on locally grown products, they would be investing $1.65 billion into the state economy.
