CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police are investigating a hit and run that killed a Chesterfield teenager.

Police said 19-year-old Elizabeth "Nikki" West was walking along the 3000 block of Turner Road early Saturday morning when she was hit and killed by a vehicle.  The incident happened around 1 a.m., police said.

"It makes me really sad to know that some person hit her and left her on the side of the road," Brenda West, Nikki's mother, said.

West said her daughter invited some friends over, including an ex-boyfriend.  She told us Nikki left the house because the two got into a confrontation.

"I don't know if she was just so mad that she didn't pay attention.  I don't know.  I mean, she knows that street," West said.  "She always said it's dangerous, and I don't know why she did it."

West described Nikki as a happy and beautiful person who wanted to join the National Guard.  More importantly, she said Nikki was excited to spend her first Mother's Day with her 7-month-old son.

Her mother said Nikki wanted to start off her first Mother's Day with doing something special for her son.

Saturday's tragic accident comes just seven months after another deadly hit and run at the intersection of Turner Road and Hull Street, which is just a short distance away.

Some people who live and work near Turner Road and Walmsley Boulevard say they see a lot of accidents.  They say it can be dangerous at night.

"It's just not a lot of light around here," resident Theresa Newton said.

Now the grieving mother is asking the hit and run driver who took her daughter's life to come forward.

"Give yourself up.  Nikki needs this.  I need this.  Every parent needs this.  It's not going to bring her back or to help me, but it just has to be done.  It's the right thing to do," West said.
