Guestbook: Comments about Va. burial of Boston bomber suspect
WTVR CBS 6 invites you to use the form below to share your comments about the burial of Boston bomber suspect in Doswell, Virgina.
The woman who chose to arrange for Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s burial holds a degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. She told the Boston Globe that ”Jesus says [to] love our enemies.” She wished to end the controversy and pickets in Massachusetts because “It portrayed America at its worst.”

Comment: A terrorist that changed America forever was given the right to be buried in American soil at probably no cost to his family. Yet you have good, honest citizens who work hard their entire life and sometimes when they pass on their family can’t afford the proper burial for the so they are just turned into ash. Why is it that we bury the evil and not the good? I think that is what a lot of people are angry at. He gets his last right to be buried, but other good honest people who just don’t have the money can’t? There are several, several evil people in America who have been laid to rest so we just need to accept it and try to find a way to help the ones that need help with burying their loved ones. If we can help a terrorist we need to help those who loved this country.

Comment: Thank you to Martha for her humanity and for remembering what we all should have been taught through our various faiths..there is no healing until you learn to forgive. There is too much hatred and anger in this world and someone has to start making a difference. Hopefully others will start behaving like the catholics, christians, etc. they claim to be.

Comment: As a Virginian, I applaud the actions of those who made these arrangements. Americans are seen as petty, spoiled, and immature throughout the world; I’m pleased someone had the maturity and courage to step forward and show there are still good people among us and wish everyone else would just move forward. We need to focus on caring for the victims, prosecuting the surviving offender and making sure something like does not happen again. The man is dead. Move on.

Comment: The boy did a terrible act, but he is dead and in God’s judgement. I am glad the woman took action to see he is buried. I believe she acted in God’s will and that it is God’s will to have him buried in Virginia in a small private cemetery. My regret is that the location was made public and Caroline County may have to deal with security. If she made a mistake, it was to e-mail the journalist who broke the news. We don’t necessarily have to love our ennemies, but we are civilized and civilized people dispose of the dea

Comment: It would have been wise for this interfaith group, even with their good intentions, to have consulted with all local and regional Muslim groups as well as to have consulted with the Caroline County Board of Supervisors, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, with the Virginia State Police and with the Governor’s Office as well notifying them of their intentions and determining if this seemed the right thing for Virginia to do.
They also should have contacted Tsarnaev’s family members in order to ask them how they felt about this. If the body of Tarrnaev remains at that cemetery, hopefully nobody will disturb it, yet, even so, there is that possibility that it might be disturbed and desecrated. I also hope that this will not have outraged the terrorist groups, for whatever warped reason they might have for being upset, resulting in attacks HERE. It is also perplexing that in Massachusetts, which is, allegedly, so liberal and tolerant, that they could not find any place to bury Tsarnaev’s remains. While one might commend the compassion of the interfaith group involved, this really needs to have been thought through a lot more and the courtesy of contacting the above mentioned and discussing this with them should have been done instead of just going ahead with it.

Comment: Why bring him to Virginia you people act like this is the dump he didn’t die here he shouldn’t buried here simple as that.
Comment: We should remember the state motto, Virginia is for Lovers. I just hate the fact of all the attention that its causing, not to mention all the revenues that the small town of Caroline will have to endure for unknowingly receiving Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s body. What a circus you have on your hands now. I’m just glad hes put to rest and now the Country can move on.
Comment: I’m upset that this body was buried in my county where I have lived for decades and raised my children. This county struggles to renovate schools and even buy new school buses. The sheriff’s department doesn’t have enough cars as it is and certainly doesn’t have the manpower to patrol this cemetery and won’t give it any extra attention, as the sheriff said. Caroline is often in the news for negative things, such as the bus crash on Interstate 95 and now this burial. None of this helps economic development in this county.
Something this controversial should not have been done in secret. It should have been a matter of public discourse.
If she wants to quote Jesus, a better choice would be: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Comment: I personally think that they should have done him like he did to the people in Boston Cause I believe that an eye for an eye, would cut out alot of this EVIL EVIL behavioral. Cause if someone don’ t think that GOD is hurting for for the way HIS children are behaving think again. GOD BLEEDS EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT A CRIME IS COMMITTED GOD HEART BREAKS WHEN HE LOOKS DOWN IN US AS HIS CHILDREN.

Comment: This being should not allowed in the Commonwealths soil. His actions do not warrant such honor.
Comment: He dead now and can not hurt no more ppl. So let him R.I.P
Comment: Why in the world would ANYONE I mean ANYONE think that this move would be okay!! It’s just another “mess” for us to pay for…..
Comment: To believe our state was chosen for the burial of this man that destroyed America. We did the right thing when it came Osama Bin Laden, why give our state the national attention of housing a ruthless person.
Comment: …so let me get this straight. While we have 3 deceased victims (God rest their souls) and some hundred plus people hurt/permanently disabled from this ordeal; we “Americans” are worried about where a dead man’s body is buried? Wow…let’s take our talents to those people who need our attention. Do I care where he’s buried? Eh, out of respect for those in Boston preferably not anywhere in Mass…but at the end of the day this creature is DEAD. All this time spent on debating whether he should be buried in VA or not is meaningless, he’s buried! Go help these victims.
Heck I’m pretty sure we’ve buried plenty of people in this American soil who have killed way more people and committed some heinous crimes, but it seems like because he was Muslim he is automatically labeled a terrorist and all this American pride comes out. But what about those poor babies in CT?
AN AMERICAN killed those babies and he’s crazy…not a terrorist? What because he had a gun not a bomb and wasn’t Muslim? Did anybody pitch a fit about where he would be buried? Smh, we need to redirect our attention to where it matters and that’s to the VICTIMS!
Comment: He should have been cremated and his ashes spread in a landfill!
Comment: Well we get all of New York’s trash, so why is every so shocked ???
Comment: I feel the best thing to have done was go against his wishes and had him cremated and sent back to Russia. Unfortunately no one wanted him so we had to pick up the trash and bury it in our own back yard. I don’t know why the government allowed a terrorist to be buried here anyway. Yes, we do bury the worst criminals but we should not under any circumstance bury terrorists in our country.
Comment: This is crazy
Comment: I feel that yes he was wrong for what he did, but god loves everyone unconditional. I’m glad that he had a proper funeral. God bless the one who made it happen.
Name: Daniel Beasley
Comment: There was nothing courteous about what they did, and my thought is dump terrorist on top of a landfill . The buzzards, seagull’s and vultures will do the rest.
Name: Brian K Pearce
Comment: Well this certainly raises the question as to what she wasn’t thinking? What qualifies this woman to be the great healer for a Nation that was betrayed by yet against foreigner that it opened its arms to? If this woman wanted to see him buried somewhere, Hell dig him a grave in the back yard so she could mourn over him.
Name: Crocodile rock
Comment: Martha has made Virginia a resting sanctuary for terrorists…Tamerlan’s brother is coming too. American wasn’t at it worst when they picketed at Massachusetts, they were grieving deeply but Martha’s self importance betrayed the feelings of Virginians.
Name: Norma Earls
Comment: The sneaky, conniving way that Martha Mullen arranged this w/o any thought toward the residents of Caroline County and their local government officials and law enforcement resources is outrageous. Not 1 cent of money from Caroline tax payers should be spent on “security” for this terrorist’s remains. Caroline tax payers pay law enforcement to protect THEM from people like HIM.
How amazing that Martha Mullen feels “at peace” for honoring a terrorist who blew apart innocent people. Too bad she didn’t feel the same compassion for the residents whose lives she intruded upon behind their backs.
Comment: This private cemetary made the decision to allow his burial here and should be responsible for any security needs and costs…not the taxpayers of Caroline. If those involved had such good intentions they should have kept their “good deed” to themselves and done everything possible to keep the media and the world from knowing. So much for moving forward……

Comment: This is crazy for him to come to Va and the woman who set it up is from Richmond says she just want it to be over and for us to move on, what a bunch of crap if this is why she did it the. Why did she call a Boston reporter and leak the story? Ill tell you why the reporter paid her for the info I’m sure. Going to cost the state money to have state and local police watch the site. She also just helped build a shrine for others who share this killers beliefs! Way to go, so called American! Should have wrapped him up and taken him out to sea, that way others wouldn’t have this shrine this woman and the government help to build for the other terrorist out there!
Comment: Should have buried him at sea….
Comment: God Bless Martha Mullens for her action and the reason for her action! I’ve never heard an out cry like this before in my life. No one said anything about Adam Lanza. Why is there such an out cry about Tamerlan Tsarnaev; is it because he is Muslim? Only God can judge his soul now and why should anybody care about the body which is just an empty shell without a soul? Martha Mullen is so right, the Word says to love our enemies.
Comment: It’s nothing but bones. You could bury him literally in my back yard and I would not care. Just plant grass over it and I’d be fine with it. (Just don’t announce the location because I don’t need tourists.)
I would think that with all the anger people are still spewing over this, that people would be happy that his body is buried in American soil. He hated this country, and now his body has to stay here forever and ever. It’s poetic justice.
Comment: Funny I do not see my comment about the terrorists who broke into America killing off all of the Natives…those terrorists are burried in American soil after there attack!!! This information may help and soothe some who are angry with the bombers burial here in Va. was my comment removed because you are possible relatives to the original and worst terrorist to hit plymouth rock!! Can you answer me CBS. THANK YOU.
Name: Patricia Emory
Comment: I don’t believe it was the right decision to make without talking to the County Leaders in Caroline County as we’ll as the Town of Doswell. The Terrorists from 9/11 have never been buried why is he so special? The entire.Islamic Community was not even consulted and as a Christian I do believe that is wrong. She preaches forgiveness and talks about being a Christian, whydidn’t his family take the responsibility and bury him overseas in Russia where he belongs.
Comment: Send him back over seas or let the FBI have disposition ….Get him out of here…. I’m sure his will didn’t ” say bury me in va”……. Why is he here, eeeeeeeeeee!!
Name: B. Brown
Comment: Other states were allowed a Voice and those Voices were Respected.
This woman took it upon herself to subversively circumvent the Rightful Voices of all other Virginians and US Citizens. I find that very disturbing, callous, calculating, discourteous and disrespectful.
Name: Terry Beer
Comment: Like most people I know the “Boston Bombing Suspect” as he is called is dead and it makes no difference where he is buried. He can do no more harm to anyone!
Comment: It sucks knowing as a resident near Doswell, a terrorist was laid to rest in our nations soil and right down the road none the less. What a horrible thing to know.
Comment: Did [Mrs. Mullen] consider the potential cost to Caroline Co. and Virginia should a protest or crime take place at the burial site? Perhaps she needs to be billed accordingly, otherwise the taxpayers will be paying for it. Pity the good souls and their families who are buried on this property as they will not have the peace they deserve. This was an attention-getting stunt by someone who was too self-centered to think the issue through completely. Why would any sane person not remain anonymous in such a situation?
Comment: They had to put him somewhere but what infuriates me is all the money and charity this country has given to these terrorists and bums! Who is paying for all the airline tickets for these terrorists to fly back and forth to Russia?????
To refer to the woman who gave birth to these terrorists as a “distraught” and grieving mother, makes me sick! she’s a thief and terrorist herself! They need to put her in prison in Russia and make her work like a slave for the rest of her rotten life!
Name: Kimberly Charboneau
Comment: The first thought that went through my mind was “Why VIRGINIA?” Why was VA picked as his burial site? I feel very bad for all those in Boston whose lives were affected because of this man but it doesn’t make any sense to me why he is buried here.
Name: Jennifer M.
Comment: I think that a lot of the anger many of us are feeling is because we would like to see this man punished for his crimes. While that is a natural feeling, we can’t punish him because he is dead, and what we are arguing about is a corpse, which can harm no one. The only issue I see that is worth considering is that, by revealing the location of his grave, it may indeed make it a martyr’s shrine for other religious nuts or a target for angry people who would desecrate a cemetery For the sake of the other people buried in that cemetery presumably loyal Americans, it would have been better for the location to have remained undisclosed.
NAME: Jessie L. Jordan
MESSAGE: While I hate what this man did, I do believe it is in the best interest of all to have the body buried so that no more publicity is focused on it. It is a step in allowing us as a nation to move forward and focus on the needs of vicitms’ families and survivors.
What is most upsetting to me is the location being spread around by media. I believe “undisclosed location” would have been sufficient. But NOOOO, let’s give the mentally unstable not only the name of the cemetary but the street address as well! That is the media creating a crisis! Who will pay for security now that blabbermouths have spread the location and invited trouble to come visit?
NAME: C. Cantrell
MESSAGE: We should be focusing on the victims, not the offender. There is no purpose served in where the offender is buried. Where are the victims, how they are doing, and what they need is what is most important.

MESSAGE: Even though Tamerlan did wrong with bombing the Boston marathon, his body should be buried because it is the right thing to do. I know many people do not want him buried, but he should be just like everyone else.
NAME: Sandra Campbell
MESSAGE:I don’t feel any American cemetery should have taken him, Why? Ship his sorry —– back to Russia or were ever. I don’t care if they shipped his —- to the moon. Not next to my family!!!!!

MESSAGE: I am up set about the bombing don’t matter he dead and he needs to be buried. God would never would want us make a big deal were he buried at!! He dead and can’t hurt nobody anymore!!!!

MESSAGE: Far be it for any American to get a donated plot for their burial!!!!!!!!!
MESSAGE: Can not believe this animal is buried in Virginia. He doesn’t deserve to be buried on American soil where he brutally killed and maimed so many Americans. Virginia, this woman, and the cemetery all need to hang their heads in shame! What is this State saying to the family of the murdered and the ones who lost limbs and will forever have to live with this tragedy? Get this animal out of this State and send him body to his Country. We do not want him!
MESSAGE: TYPICAL VIRGINIA…ALWAYS TAKING TRASH FROM OTHER STATES…
NAME: John L.
MESSAGE: Worcester and Peter Stefan passed the buck!
NAME: Ronnie Watson
MESSAGE: Why should our state of Va have to be the ones who takes this killer in, it will cause problems to our state that will cost taxpayers of VA more money to pay state and local police to protect the site. No state should have to bear this, the body should have be wrapped up and dropped out in the Ocean. Us Americans just gave this killer a shrine for others like him who are agents this country to praIse him!
Name: Mary Chamberlain
Comment: He should be sent back to his parents.
Comment: If this woman that organize this was truly wanting to do something good.. why did she not buy a plane ticket to Russia and put him on it as his parents wanted him back. Also, this has nothing to do with hate… this person was not a US citzen, the President should of step in like he does when he wants to talk about sporting events and stuck up for the citzens of this country and use our tax payer money as they all do in Washington and bought the ticket and sent “the remains” back to Russia!
Where was our officials in VIrginia when all of this was going on???? 3 other states rejected “the remain” to be buied in their domains…. We should of have the right to refuse to! Here is another thing that we as US citzens have to tolerate again!
If one of our people did what this man did in Russia .. do you think they would have been as nice as we have been? HIS PARENTS WANTED HIM BACK… SEND HIM BACK!!!
Comment: Why should Virginia be the designated place to bury that sorry waste of skin? Jesus says forgive thy brother, and I do, I hope the victims do as well. Jesus got angry that we know of once.
I think we should have shipped his remains back to his mother and father in Russia. Maybe they did not want them either.
The fact is what they did was no better than the towers. America has gotten to soft on these people. I blame Obama Bin Laden for this. I believe he is the root cause
Name: Pamela Kay
Comment: I understand where the woman is coming from, but I do believe the community and the county should have been asked about it first. The family should have taken care of their son what kind of family turn their back on their own child.
Name: Linda Anderson
Comment: I would have to agree that to argue and fight over where this man is buried is pointless and does portray the US in a very unflattering light. Tamerlan Tsarnev is dead. The horrific acts he committed in life cannot be changed. What purpose does not allowing his body to be buried serve? If we feel that we, as a country, are better than what we feel he represented then we should act that way. His body should be afforded a respectful burial and that should be the end of it. What would everyone who is arguing about his burial like to happen? Store his body indefinitely? Who is going to pay for that? Desecrate his body? Doesn’t that make us just as evil as what we feel he represents? Bury him and be done. We should not allow our anger and fear to cloud our judgement and turn us into that which we abhor.
Comment: I think he should’ve been sent back to where he came from. Look at all the Hurt he caused with no regards to the victims.
Comment: I think the body should have just been cremated
Comment: This just sickens me.
Comment: May he rest in peace which he never found in this life.
Name: Mike P
Comment: Just wrong, he should have been dropped in the sea like Osama! We don’t need this in Virginia.
Comment: Kudos to this woman. Hate what he did, but not him. We still have to remember he has a daughter and a family who loved him dearly. When we praise someone’s death, we are behaving no differently than them.
Also, if there’s anything I’ve learned throughout this whole ordeal, it’s that you cannot trust the media to do anything but stir up trouble and confusion. If it weren’t for the media and their swiss cheese reports, we’d be over this already.
Comment: Of course he needed to be buried – but there are procedures in every state for unclaimed bodies. If his “family” had not claimed him, Massachusetts would have dealt with him appropriately.
His own wife and mother did nothing to pay for his burial — why are our state resources (and our tax money) now going to have to be tapped to pay for additional demands on the police etc. that will inevitably result as people come here to protest this horrible person and his horrible acts. It bothers me that the protesters and people who want their five minutes of fame, now have a reason to bring their craziness to Virginia. This man had no connection to Virginia, nor should he have been given one. It also bothers me greatly that so much effort, time and money was spent to provide a final resting place for this monster. That effort, time and money should have been reserved for his many victims. They deserve it and they need it.

Comment: You can love your enemies if you like but don’t shove your beliefs down my throat which is exactly what you did. You have forever tainted Virginia, because you thought you knew better than anyone else. That kid, if he had to be buried in the United States, should have been buried in a landfill. Better yet rather than give him a martyr’s grave, he should have been dumped at sea like Bin Laden. If it was good enough for him it was good enough for this punk kid intent on killing and dismembering innocent people. Now instead of controversy and pickets in Massachusetts you have brought it to the state that I was raised in. He has no ties to Virginia other than you sought your own selfish need for your own glory and put him in the dirt there. How long before someone finds this grave? I hope it’s soon and somebody has the guts to dig him out of it and let’s him rot to feed the vultures and buzzards, cause that is all that kid is good for!!!!!
Comment: We don’t want terrorists buried on us soil after so many innocent American people have been killed and injured by these terrorists
Comment: I. Agree. With the women Jesus. Say to. Love your. Enemies
Comment: He should have been cremated and his remains sent back to his family… This woman might have thought she was doing the right thing, unfortunately she was wrong and now we all, as a Commonwealth, have to deal with her mistake.
Comment: I’m glad he is buried. What disgusts me are the vengeful, hateful people who continue to honor the man by harassing his relatives. The man is dead and needed to be buried. I am still amazed at the barbaric behavior being exhibited by citizens of our great country. We have never, in our history, been as uncivilized as I’ve seen us be because of the actions of this man. I applaud this woman for showing us the right thing to do for anyone who dies in our great country. The press needs to leave the issue alone. Stop stirring up people’s anger toward a dead body. It’s an inanimate object. Leave it alone! Let us move on with our lives and concentrate on things that are important. The burial of a dead body should be the focus of our lives. Get a grip People.
Name: Norman Ledgerwood
Comment: We should strive to bury all terrorists. The location of the burial is rather beside the point.
Name: Yholanda Mills
Comment: He has been forgiven, and it will be much help to you to forgive as well–remember hating only hurts you and not the other person. We look for so much and seek out sooo many reasons in this land of honey to sink. our teeth into all that is negative. There are prob hundreds of people buried in Arlington Va. You just don’t know the history…molesters…rapist…murderers and even slave holders so stop being angry and try to LIVE a peaceful life…the more things you find to be angry about the more anger building situations will show up at your door. Forgive!!

Comment: I am very proud of the Islamic Funeral Services group and for Martha Mullens for trying to put to rest this terrible situation. They did what they were lead to do.We need to keep the focus on the victims and their families. We need to come together as a people to solve the problems of hatred and violence. Neither the County of Caroline nor the police needed to be told what was being done. When I die will there need to be permission given to bury me in a plot bought and paid for in a private cemetery? I think not. It is now over. Let’s get on with the healing.
Comment:I hate the fact that he buried in the state of Virginia so close to home
Name: Larry Lanberg
Comment: The burial was arranged covertly, done sneakily. The residents of Doswell never had a clue — until after it happened. I cannot agree with this way of doing things.
Name: Mary Ross
Comment: I hate the thought that animal is buried here but, I am more concerned that our Muslim neighbors may be negatively affected because of it. We need to maintain calm and tolerance with our Muslim neighbors. Remember, they are God loving peaceful people and hate the violent acts this man and his brother did in Boston!
