OAKLAND (WTVR/CNN) – The bride was among five people killed when a limo caught fire over the weekend. The vehicle was on its way to a bachelorette party when flames started shooting out of the back.

“Looking at the photos, it appears it started in the trunk,” California Highway Patrol spokesman Ron Simmons said Sunday. “But at this time, we don’t know officially if the fire started inside the vehicle or on the exterior.”

The limo driver was uninjured. The four surviving women were treated for smoke inhalation.

A coworker of bride-to-be Neriza Fojas said she last saw her friend on Friday.

“All of us worked Friday night,” Grace Kanu said. “We have an inside joke: when it’s time we are so busy we say ‘is it time for tea?’ So Friday, for some reason that was the only night we didn’t say ‘is it time for tea?’ Now she’s gone.”

Fojas, of Fresno, Calif., was slated to be married in June. She and her friends had hired the Lincoln town car for her bachelorette party, friend Lovela Nicolas said.

In a written statement, the limousine company said it was “deeply saddened” by the deaths.

“LimoStop Inc. will do everything possible to investigate and assist authorities in determining the cause of this fire in order to help bring forth answers and provide closure to the victims and their families,” it said.
