RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- A storm that has spent the past week crossing the central part of the United States will slowly pass through our area from Monday through Thursday.

Rain chances on Monday will increase during the afternoon and evening.  The best threat for rain for the first half of the day will be west and southwest of Richmond.

Tuesday will be the wettest day of the week with occasional rain during the day.   A few isolated thunderstorms are possible.  Much of the area could pick up over an inch of rain.

As the storm center passes the area on Wednesday, things will turn a little more unstable, so thunderstorms will be more numerous.  The rain will be scattered at times.

The storm will finally push east of the area by the end of the week.  A few leftover showers are possible Thursday, and Friday will be dry.

A cold front will pass through the middle of next weekend with the chance of some scattered showers and storms.  This will not be a prolonged event.

All of our computer models are in agreement of significant rainfall.  One model suggests under an inch of rain, but the majority of the computer model runs are producing totals over two inches.  Taking an average of about 24 amounts from the different models over the past few days produces around two inches.

The normal high for this time of year is in the mid to upper 70s.  Our highs have been cooler than normal for quite awhile and will remain so through about Wednesday.   Highs should reach above normal Thursday, and 80° weather looks likely Friday and Saturday.  By the time we reach Thursday, we will close out an almost three-week period of mainly below normal days.
