CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – An eight-year-old boy is charged with possession of a weapon on school property, according to Chesterfield Police.

Police said the child brought a 3-inch folding knife to Ettrick Elementary School this week. Investigators added the child did not threaten anyone with the knife.

“We take very seriously our responsibility to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that is free from disruption. Students who violate student conduct regulations are subject to suspension and/or expulsion, and, if the offense is a violation of the law, to prosecution,” Chesterfield Schools spokesman Shawn Smith said in a statement.
