Commonwealth can reject out-of-state FOIA

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - A Virginia Supreme Court ruling allows the Commonwealth to reject out-of-state requests for documents under the Freedom of Information Act .

Justice Samuel Alito Jr. wrote, Virginia`s law 'provides a service that is related to state citizenship.'

At least seven other states have laws limiting requests for information to their citizens only.
