RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Kroger announced it will stop doubling manufacturer coupons in their Mid-Atlantic region grocery stores — including its nearly 20 stores in the Richmond area.

“In an effort to provide you with the most value for your dollar, we are updating our coupon policy and implementing a New Lower Prices program,” Kroger posted on its Facebook page.“We will continue to accept manufacturer coupons and other coupons at face value, including: digital coupons, e-coupons, Catalina coupons and printables. We will also be investing additional resources into lowering prices for our customers on everyday items.”

The new coupon policy goes into effect May 12.

“We understand that this is a significant change. We hope that you come and see our new low prices – as well as the many other ways to save — for yourself,” the grocery store’s post continued.

Hundreds of shoppers commented under Kroger’s Facebook announcement.

“I appreciate that Kroger is being up front about this and giving customers notice about the change. However, I think that this is just another step of corporations trying to see just how much money they can make. Kroger claims that they are going to lower prices but will they be as low as they would if you could still double your coupons? I seriously doubt this,” wrote one Facebook user.

“How exactly does this benefit your customers? That’s ridiculous,” wrote another.

Will Kroger’s new policy impact where you shop?
