PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) -- The end of April is that special time of year that means strawberries are now ripe for the picking in Central Virginia .

The owners of Adam's Acres Produce in Petersburg, which  opened to pickers on Saturday, said that this year's crop is coming in a bit later because of the cold and wet conditions in March.

However, despite the rain in this week's forecast, farmers said now is the time to get out and pick some berries.

"It's actually a good time to pick because it's overcast and cloudy and cool," said Todd Adams, co-owner of Adams Acres Produce. "It makes for pretty good picking conditions when it's cool."

Adam's Acres was open for picking from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Click here to check their Facebook page for when they will be open.
