CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Students and faculty at Virginia State University gathered Friday for a memorial service in honor of two students who died over the weekend.

Jauwan Holmes and Marvell Edmondson, both of Hampton Roads, were last seen walking into the Appomattox River last weekend.

Seven Virginia State University students were taking part in what police and survivors called a hazing ritual to join an organization not recognized by the university.

Friday's service featured Virginia State University president Keith Miller, campus ministry director Delano Douglas and performances by the VSU Gospel Chorale.

Four people were charged with misdemeanor hazing in connection to this incident.
