Many know the fleeting chagrin of trying to order a pizza or contact a business, only to wind up bothering the resident all to unfortunate too have a number one digit off from Domino’s Pizza or the like (here’s looking at youWhole Foods FourSquare listing).

Now imagine you try to place a call about your cat food and you wind up connected with…drumroll…a sexy singles hotline number.

A new batch of cat food just hit the shelves of PetSmart–and meoooow—they were mistakenly printed with the 1-800 number for America’s Hottest Talk Line.

“Welcome to America’s hottest talk line. Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys, free, press 1 now,” the message said.  “Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you. Press 2 to connect free now.”

Jeff Davis, public relations spokesman for PetSmart, confirmed the printing mistake. He said that four flavors of the Simply Nourish brand were printed with the wrong prefix.

Ah! So close!

It came down to an 800 versus 888.

The correct number to contact PetSmart is 1-888-299-PETS.

The four brands that feature the “risqué” number are (and these sound like human food!):

  • Pork with steamed carrots and parsley
  • Lamb and duck with red peppers
  • Chicken with parmesan cheese and spinach
  • Turkey with feta cheese sundried tomato

The cans of food hit stores nationwide and will be sold until gone. Davis said that there are overlays being printed that will be slipped over the cans.

Davis also emphasized, when asked, that this was not in any way a marketing strategy.

Strangely enough, it’s not the first time there has been a mix-up involving this chat line. In the past, the number was mistakenly listed on distributed flyers as a hotline for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, reports WFTV 9.
