RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones released the following statement Tuesday, the same day CBS 6 asked the mayor’s office why he had not yet publicly addressed Saturday’s police shooting in South Richmond:

“Our City’s Police Department often goes above and beyond the call of duty to protect our City’s residents. Regrettably, they must face dangerous situations on a daily basis of which two of our city’s finest faced this past weekend. I have called the two officers who were unfortunately injured in the line of duty to express my appreciation for their bravery and actions to ensure safety within our city. I wish them a speedy and full recovery from this senseless act of violence.”

The two Richmond police officers injured in Saturday’s shooting are expected to make a full recovery.

CBS 6 asked the mayor’s office about the mayor’s statement after a CBS 6 Facebook fan posed the question on the CBS 6 Facebook page. Visit the CBS 6 Facebook to post questions you would like us to ask.
