RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia will no longer investigate tax fraud as of this summer.
It's eliminating its criminal investigation unit as part of a cost-savings strategy.
Six positions on the investigative staff are being eliminated to save $120,000 annually. Some of the staff will move to another department.
A former Chief of Staff says because of the way Virginia has people file their taxes any fraud would be caught by the Internal Revenue Service.
Law enforcement agencies will now handle tax fraud cases.
