CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Virginia State University was on lockdown Sunday evening.

The university tweeted a message just before 9:15 p.m. that a curfew was in effect for all students — and that they were to go to their dorm rooms as soon as possible.

Earlier in the evening, VSU officially released the names of two freshmen that were last seen trying to cross the Appomattox River, just south of VSU, around 1:30 a.m. late Saturday.

A university official said Jauwan Holmes and Marvell Edmondson were last seen Saturday in the river.

VSU said counseling sessions will be available for students starting Monday at 9 a.m. in room 200 at Foster Hall.

Several search and rescue crews spent Saturday and Sunday trying to find the students, but the operation was called off Sunday evening. The search is slated to resume Monday morning.
